The punishments in Hammurabi's Code include extremely severe punishments. One of the laws, law number 22 says, "If any one is committing a robbery and is caught, then he shall be put to death." If someone breaks a law, Hammurabi's code usually has a law that will kill you. Law number 1 says, "If anyone ensnare another, putting a ban upon him, but he can not prove it, than he that ensnared him shall be put to death. Laws number 8 says, "If anyone steal cattle or sheep, or a donkey, or a pig or a goat, if it belonged to a god or to the court. the thief shall pay thirtyfold therefore; if they belonged to a freed man of the king he shall pay tenfold; if the thief has nothing with which to pay he shall be put to death. Another topic is the severity of
punishment. Punishments in Hammurabi’s code are severe. One for instance is
that if you put out the eye of a man, your eye will also be put out. I really
don’t want my eye to be put out if I only tapped the man but he fell and his
eye came out. If you ever knock someone’s tooth out or break someone’s bone, then
that same tooth or bone will be broken. One law states that if you falsely
accuse someone, then you will be put to death. That would be too much pressure
for me to even work under. If you made one tiny mistake, then it might ruin
your life in ancient Mesopotamia, so I would be very careful. Law number 3 says,"If anyone bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does no prove he has charged, he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death.
